Can Web 2.0 technologies help your staff learn to use Innovative software, integrate best practices, follow consistent procedures, and keep track of coding schemes? Ohio University Libraries used a wiki platform to build an archive of cataloging and ILS system administration documentation.Making Rapid Update Rapid Lloyd Chittenden, Technical Services Librarian, Fort Lewis College
Demonstration of making rapid update for individual records work with a single bar code scan with no keystrokes or mouse movements between each item. Normally this process requires a keystroke and mouse click between each scan. This slows the process down significantly. My method allowed us to change the locations for 32,000 books last summer, despite the fact that we had no way to get them into review files.Getting Authority Control Under Control Catherine Scullion, Catalog Librarian—Technical Services, Appleton Public Library
The Appleton Public Library is a member of the Outagamie-Waupaca Library System (OWLS) serving the northeast Wisconsin population. After a brief period of using the services of an authority control vendor, the small staff of the Appleton Public Library has taken on the challenge of in-house authority control for their system’s catalog database. Steps that the staff has taken to simplify the authority control process using Millennium tools including Global Update, Headings Report, and Create Lists will be shared. Suggestions for organizing authority control procedures and retrieving updated authority control information will also be featured.Getting Millennium to Run on Older Computers Joe Reimers, Notre Dame Kresge Law Library, Technology Support Specialist
Using Linux and assorted other tweaks, it is fairly easy to make Millennium reasonably well even on outdated computers. For budget-conscious libraries, this can offer greater flexibility in what staff can do.
K6 - Our Public Face
Tuesday, April 20th @ 3:00pm - 4:00pmUsing WebPAC Logins to Distribute Password Information for Non IP Databases Terry Ballard, Assistant Director of Technical Services for Library Systems, New York Law School
Our parent institution informed us that they had improved the portal and that they would no longer be able to provide a secure screen to distribute information about passwords to non-IP recognized databases. After considering things like buying our own server, we realized that we had the capability to use the Innovative server as a filtering mechanism.
What is Perl? Phil Shirley, Technology Services Coordinator, Cuyahoga Falls Library
An introduction to what Perl is, what you need to get started using it, and a couple of examples of how it\'s being used in Innovative libraries.Mashing Up Your Bestseller Lists! Peggy Shaughnessy, Web Applications Developer, Poudre River Public Library District
We were really tired using staff time to update our New Times Bestseller lists every week to get links into our bib records. So we took matters into our own hands! We got an NY Times API key and wrote a Coldfusion script to mashup the feeds with our Syndetics bookjackets and links into our catalog. Staff and patrons are thrilled!
